News Desk – Himachal Pradesh is facing a severe monsoon crisis. Since June 20, heavy rains, flash floods, and cloudbursts have caused major destruction across the state, leaving 63 people dead and 40 missing, according to official data.
Naresh Chauhan, Media Advisor to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, confirmed the numbers and said the state will soon begin Civil Defence training for 1% of its population to better handle such disasters in the future.
The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) shared the following updates:
- 261 roads are blocked, including 186 in Mandi district alone
- 599 transformers and 797 water supply schemes have been affected
Damages include:
- 150+ houses
- 104 cattle sheds
- 31 vehicles
- 14 bridges
Mandi District Hit the Hardest
- In Mandi, 13 people have died so far
- 29 people are still missing, and the search is ongoing
- Bodies were recovered from areas like Gohar (7), Thunag (5), and Karsog (1)
- On Tuesday alone, 10 cloudbursts, 3 flash floods, and 1 landslide were reported in the district
Rescue and Relief Efforts
- 370 people rescued, including 316 in Mandi
- 5 relief camps have been set up
- Teams from NDRF, SDRF, police, and home guards are carrying out search and rescue operations
Rain and Weather Updates
The weather department has issued an orange alert for July 5 to 9, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some parts of the state.
There is also a warning of possible flash floods in six districts:
