NationalHC allows Calcutta police to probe against Suvendu Adhikari

Date:

Kolkata: Leader of opposition Subhendu Adhikari who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the Trinamool Congress is all set to face a probe by Calcutta police in connection with the Sharada chit fund scam.

Calcutta High Court has allowed the police to conduct a probe against Adhikari after Sharada Group founder and chairman Sudpita Sen wrote a letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) accusing him of being a beneficiary in the multi-crore chit fund scam, sources said on Wednesday.

The Kanthi police station in East Midnapore district recently sent a notice to the BJP leader on the basis of Sen’s letter to the CBI. Adhikari challenged the notice before the high court, saying that as the central agency is already conducting a probe into the scam, a parallel inquiry cannot be held. A division of the high court ordered that the state police can conduct a parallel probe and also dismissed Adhikari’s plea.
