Two die, and several sustain injuries after tree fall in two incidents
Respite from severe heat in some areas is likely soon
Haridwar (Uttarakhand)/New Delhi: At a time when many areas in northern India are reeling under severe heatwave conditions, a severe storm accompanied by rain hit the Haridwar district in Uttarakhand late Tuesday night.
As a result, a 200-year-old tree was uprooted and fell on a four-year-old boy and a man who died instantly. Three persons were also injured in the incident, the police said on Wednesday.
A senior police officer said that the incident occurred in Jawalapur of the district. The injured were rushed to a government hospital.
On getting information, fire engines and the police rushed to the spot, but it was difficult to carry out the rescue operation because of the severity of the storm.
Similarly, in a separate incident, a tree fell on two tourists from Sonepat. The incident occurred at Laljilwara area of Hardwar.
According to sources, five persons, brought to the district hospital, sustained injuries in two different incidents. Two of them died and one was referred to AIIMs unit in Rishikesh, they said.
Immediately after the incident, the officials of the district administration rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation arising out of storm and rain.
Locals said the storm and rain damaged several houses in the past 48 hours.
A report from New Delhi says that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain and storm in different parts of the national capital.
The rain and storm may bring down temperatures to 35 degrees Celsius in different parts of north-west India. It is going to happen because of western disturbances.
Nevertheless, at many places in north-west India day temperatures shot up to 45 degrees Celsius.
