Delhi riot: Umar Khalid gets bail

New Delhi: Omar Khalid, an alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University, has been granted bail by a Delhi court in the Delhi violence case. While granting bail to Umar Khalid, Justice Vinod Yadav said that Omar Khalid cannot be kept in jail indefinitely because some people who were part of the riots have been identified or arrested.

Omar Khalid has been granted bail on a personal bond of twenty thousand rupees. Police had registered a case against Omar Khalid under the Unlawful Activities (Prohibition) Act (UAPA) in another case related to the riots. Earlier in September this year, Khalid was also questioned by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police on 2 September in connection with the communal riots in north-east Delhi.

Let me tell you, on 23 February last year, there were communal riots in North East Delhi. In this riot, 53 people were killed and about 200 people were injured. During this time, two Delhi Police soldiers also lost their lives.
