Kolkata: Firebrand Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP from West Bengal Mahua Moitra seems to be in trouble after her party leadership said that they would not take any responsibility for the FIRs registered against her for her comments on Goddess Kali. The party leadership’s statement came in the wake of a lookout notice issued against her by the Madhya Pradesh and other state governments across the country. A veteran TMC leader and three-time Lok Sabha member of the party Saugata Roy said that the onus for taking care of the FIRs would be on Moitra and not on the party. Similarly, party’s general secretary and West Bengal Commerce and Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee told media persons that Moitra’s comments were her personal views and the party would not take any responsibility for it.

Now that the party has distanced itself from the comments made by her, political analysts feel that she may end her ties with the TMC, because, on several occasions earlier, she took stand against the party leadership. After getting a dressing down by the top leadership for her comments on Goddess Kali, she has unfollowed her twitter handle. Tight-lipped as Moitra is about the issue, corridors of power think that her unfollowing of the party’s tweeter handle is a kind of protest.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised a storm over her comments about Goddess Kali. Besides lodging FIRs against her in different parts of the country, the party held demonstrations in West Bengal. Moitra has, however, stuck to her guns, asking the BJP to prove her wrong. In a tweet, she asked the BJP to file as many FIRs as possible against her.
