New Delhi: Thousands of Congress leaders and workers broke the security cordon to protest outside the office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Delhi on Monday, sources said. Party leader Rahul Gandhi was summoned to the ED office in connection with the National Herald case. The area outside the ED office turned into a fortress because of heavy deployment of police, but the party workers sat outside the barricades, 1km away from the office and raised slogans against the government. Senior Congress leader and former Uttarakhand chief minister Harish said that he would only say ‘Satyamev Jayate’ (truth alone triumphs).
Rahul Gandhi reached the ED office at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road amidst heavy security. Just as he left the party headquarters at 24, Akbar Road, hundreds of Congress workers accompanied him but the police allowed only Rahul Gandhi to the ED office. Rahul was accompanied by her sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

The Congress workers were carrying placards and posters against the Central Government. The police had to use mild force to remove the Congress workers protesting outside the ED office and put the protesters in their vehicles. Party spokesperson Ragini Nayak who was present at the protest site said that the Central Government’s action was unconstitutional, as the police prevented the party workers from gathering outside their office. Onlookers said that the Congress protesters were non-violent.
