New Delhi: A team of Congressmen led by former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh met party president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday to apprise him about the political situation in the state which has recently seen an unprecedented ethnic violence.

Immediately after holding a discussion with the state party leaders, Kharge said that the party would send a team of observers to Manipur to assess the situation there.

In a tweet, Kharge said that a team of party leaders had apprised him of the tremendous difficulties the people of Manipur had to go through during these troubling times.

A team of observers will be sent, he said, adding that the situation in Manipur is tense and deeply distressing.

The Union Government should do everything possible so that the state return to normal, he said.

In the meanwhile, the Centre and the state government informed the Supreme court that a status report had been filed and the situation in the northeast state had improved.

The apex was informed that there had been some issued at the state border, and maintaining peace was important.

According to Solicitor General Tushal Mehta, the intention is to restore peace in the state.

He informed the Supreme Court that 315 relief camps managed by the district police and CAPF had been set up besides the state government sanctioned a contingency fund of Rs 3 crore for relief measures.

According to Mehta, nearly 46,000 people have received aid.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a serious meetings with Menipur Chief Minister N biren Singh and the representatives of Meiti Kuki communities.

He directed the state administration to take stringent action against the perpetrators of violence.

Shah also said that those who were suffering should be provided with help and the Central Government would provide all the help.
