NationalCongress takes PM to task for falling value of rupee

Date:

New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday tore into the Narendra Modi-led government for continuous fall of the rupees against the dollar.  Party spokesperson Supriya Shrinate urged the government to stop the rupee from scoring a century. The rupee appreciated 37 paise to 81.30 against the dollar in early trade on Tuesday.

It consolidated a narrow range and settle 9 paise higher at 81.58 against the dollar. Shrinate told journalists that for the first time in history, the rupee is racing fast towards 82 against the dollar. She said, “With Modiji’s blessings the rupee has become the weakest in history. It was Modiji who claimed before coming to power that the fall in the value of rupee is directly linked to prime minister’s credibility.”

According to the Congress spokesperson, in September last year, the value of the rupee was Rs 73 against the dollar, but it has gone up to 81.63. She further said, “In 2014, when Modi Ji took oath as prime minister for the first time, the value of Rs against dollar was 58.62 – which means the value of the rupee has crashed by 41.5%.”
