Bhopal: The capital of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal and its nearby areas witnessed a rainfall of biblical proportions during the past 48 hours and more are in store, the weather office said on Tuesday. Most of the rivers in the state are flowing above the danger mark. Flood waters entered many houses in low-lying areas in the state capital, throwing life out of gear. As the ditches in the roads have been filled with rainwater and many trees have fallen on roadsides across the city, the district administration has issued a circular asking the residents not to come out of their houses without important work.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams rescued more than 400 people from flood-affected areas of Vidisha, Rajgarh, Ashok Nagar, Raisen, Jabalpur, Mandla, Sidhi, Guna and from low-lying areas of Bhopal. Electricity went off in many areas of Bhopal and the residents had to face a major problem. The city recorded 7.5-inche rainfall in the past 24 hours. The weather office warned about heavy rains in the next 48 hours. Aside from the rainfall, the state experienced stormy winds that flatted many trees. Meanwhile, a stop dam constructed a year ago in Islam Nagar at Lateri block developed a major breach, which forces the authorities to release heavy water. The Indian Air Force (IAF) airlifted 100 marooned villagers in Basoda area of the state.
