ASI protected monuments will reopen to the public from July 6

New Delhi: Union Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel said on Thursday that all the monuments protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will reopen to the public from July 6. Earlier in June, the Ministry of Culture reopened 820 of the more than 3,000 monuments maintained by the ASI where religious ceremonies take place.

In the wake of the Corona virus crisis, 3,691 monuments and archaeological sites protected by the central government were closed since March 17, which the ASI takes care of. The minister said the memorial officials would follow all protocols related to the corona virus issued by the Union Health Ministry. According to sources, rule of wearing masks can be made for tourists at such sites.

Patel tweeted, “I have decided to reopen all the monuments with the Ministry of Culture and ASI from July 6”. However, this will be done only with the permission of the state and district administration. Officials said that the protocols issued by the Ministry of Health and Home Ministry will be strictly followed in whatever monuments will reopen.
