Bhopal :Two weeks have passed since a group of poachers killed three policemen in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh, but the government has ordered an inquiry into the incident on Friday, official sources said. An additional district magistrate-rank officer will probe the case. Collector of Guna district Frank Noble A. has authorised ADM Aditya Singh to probe the incident.

Singh will look into various aspects of the case, including the roles of the police and forest department. The most important part of the case is who gave tips about the presence of poachers in the forest area to the police. Aside from that, he will look into whether the forest department was informed before police had gone to the forest and what response the team received.
Inspector general of the Gwalior-Chambal division Anil Sharma was shifted within 24 hours of the incident for not reaching the spot in time. Guna Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajeev Kumar Mishra was also shifted to the police headquarters in Bhopal.
Poachers killed three policemen in a forest area in Guna district in the early hours of May 14 when the cops were patrolling the zone. A poacher was also killed in the fierce gunbattle. A third poachers fell to police bullets in an encounter whereas two were shot in the leg when they tried to escape from the police custody.

In the aftermath of the incident, there was a political slugfest between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress. They blamed each other for being hand in glove with the poachers.
The policemen who lost their lives in the incident were sub-inspector Raj Kumar Jatav, principal constable Neeraj Bhargava and constable Santram Meena.
