Mumbai: Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray has taken over as the editor of the party mouthpiece Saamana at a time when he is fighting a legal battle with Eknath Shinde over possession of the party. Thackeray’s purpose to take over the editorship of Saamna is to hurl salvos at the Shinde camp through editorials. The print line of the newspaper consists of the name of Thackeray as its editor. Executive editor of Saamna Sanjay Rau is in Enforcement Directorate’s custody in connection with money laundering case in Patra Chawn case.

In his speeches, Thackeray has begun to interact with his party workers and targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shinde camp.  When he became the chief minister, he resigned as editor of Saamna 2019 and, in March 2020, he handed over the editor’s post to his wife Rashmi.  Nevertheless, Raut, who remains the executive editor of the newspaper, will be in ED custody till August 8.
