New Delhi: Member of Parliament (MP) from Congress Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury shot off a letter to President Droupadi Murmu on Friday, tendering an apology for his “Rashtrapatni” remark that stoked a kicked up a storm in both Houses of Parliament on Thursday. His remark led to the adjournment of both Houses.

In the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Smriti Irani slammed Chowdhury and demanded an apology. She also attacked Congress’ interim president Sonia Gandhi and sought an apology from her. In the letter, he wrote: “…I assure you that it was a slip of the tongue. I apologise and request you to accept the same.”

“I am writing to express my regret for having mistakenly used an incorrect word to describe the position you hold. I assure that it was a slip of the tongue. I apologize and request you to accept the same,” he wrote in the letter.
