Ahead of a thorough investigation by the Haryana Police, 28000 phone numbers along with Rs. 15 crores of defrauded money have been recovered.
These phone numbers that were being used for duping people of their hard-earned money have been caught and will soon be blocked with the help of telecom operators.
The numbers were procured with the help of cybercrime helpline number 1930 and complaint portal cybercrime.gov.in which has been created for citizens to report any problems/ frauds encountered by them.
The compilation of the reported numbers has been shared with the field units and is being uploaded on the CyberSafe portal handled and operated by the India Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Union home ministry.
According to police officials different regions of Haryana – Gurugram (7,142), Faridabad (3,896), Panchkula (1,420), Sonipat (1,408), Rohtak (1,045), Hisar (1,228) and Ambala (1,101) are the areas with a majority of fraudulent people with mobile numbers used for committing cybercrimes.
The field units are doing an indepth analysis through IMEI with the mobile phones being used to operate these numbers. Post the analysis and finding out other mobile numbers and more details, these numbers will be uploaded on CyberSafe by DOT.
The October month is also observed as National Cyber Security month and to create more awareness about cyberfraud like theft, phishing, etc. the Haryana Police has organised many mass engagement programmes covering 20lakh people.
