New Delhi: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is focusing on Tribal people across the country as they form a major vote bank. Apart from that, the ruling party has two other things in mind: to connect them to the mainstream Hindus and to prevent them from converting to another religion, especially to Christianity.
As part of its plan, the BJP has begun to highlight tribal freedom fighters across the country and to inform the citizens about their heroic activities. In Madhya Pradesh, the party has already highlighted the role of the tribal freedom fighters like Tantya Mama, Bheema Nayak, Shanker Shah-Raghunath Shah, Raghunath Singh Mandloi, Raja Gangadhar Gond, Badal Bohi and Ganjan Korku.

In Madhya Pradesh, 21% of the state population – 15.31 million out of 72.62 million – is tribal, according to the census of 2011. Therefore, the party cannot afford to ignore the tribal people. In 2016, during a trip to MP’s Alirajpur district dominated by tribal people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there should be ten museums across the country to highlight the role of tribal freedom fighters in the Indian Freedom Movement, sources said.
Therefore, a museum of tribal leaders in Madhya Pradesh is coming up in Chhindwara district of the state. In his Independence Day speech in 2017, the Prime minister laid stress on setting up such museums as would display the history of tribal leaders who took part in the freedom movement.
A committee was formed to issue guidelines for setting up such museums. A national museum will be set up in Gujarat which has nearly nine million tribal population. There was a report that the tribal people in the state are angry with the government, so the ruling dispensation in the state, as well as in Delhi is trying to woo those people because the assembly elections in Gujarat will be held by the end of this year.

Similarly, Uttar Pradesh has more than two million tribal people. Therefore, the UP government is setting up a museum in Balrampur district of UP. It is on the verge of completion, sources in the state government said. As the number of people belonging to the Tharu tribe is very high in UP, the museum will be named Tharu Janjati Museum. A Congress leader has said that from temple politics the BJP has plunged into museum politics, as they barely wish to highlight the real issues.
