News Desk – A tragic incident took place in Gujarat’s Vadodara district on Wednesday morning, when a section of the Gambhira-Mujpur bridge collapsed, causing nine deaths as multiple vehicles plunged into the Mahisagar (Mahi) River.
What Happened?
The bridge, which connects Anand and Vadodara districts, gave way during peak traffic hours.
Four vehicles — two trucks, a Bolero SUV, and a pickup van — were crossing the bridge when it suddenly crumbled and collapsed into the river below.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud cracking sound moments before the collapse.
Rescue Operations
Fire brigade teams, police, and local officials rushed to the scene
Locals also helped rescue the injured from the water and vehicle wreckage
Three people have been rescued so far and taken to nearby hospitals
Cranes were brought in to pull the submerged vehicles from the river
Reactions and Probe
Padra MLA Chaitanyasinh Zala visited the site
The area has been sealed off, and a probe is underway to find out what caused the collapse
Locals say they had warned authorities several times about the poor condition of the bridge
The bridge is a key route connecting Central Gujarat to Saurashtra and is heavily used by commuters from Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, and Ankleshwar
One resident said, “The Gambhira bridge was in bad shape and known for accidents. Our warnings were ignored.”
