Why you should limit your social media scrolling this pandemic
We all are addicted to our social media profiles. Like not severe addiction but it is a fact that we can put off social media from our lives. After all, we all want to stay connected with the lives of our friends and relatives who always updating their pages and share what’s new that is happening in their lives. Thus, we need to accept that social media is a part of our lives in this 21st century.
Now as the coronavirus pandemic has changed the way the world works, we have enough time to actually keep scrolling through our social media pages and keep checking what others are doing in their lives in this lockdown. This makes us actually pass off a lot of our free time that we are getting as we are not traveling to any place and staying just at home doing our daily work.
Sometimes, what happens is the more we scroll on social media the more it leaves an impact on our mental health. Like if we are unhappy with our husband and we see a couple posing for a lovely photograph on social media, we feel disheartened that why our lives are not beautiful like theirs. Similarly, if our boss is really sitting on our heads for getting the work done and we check out an update on LinkedIn of someone getting a better job than ours, then again we feel disappointed that we are suffering so much while others are getting what they want.
Thus, it is important to spend only a limited amount of time on social media because it affects our mood easily and we live with that regrets, unhappiness, sadness and get into a comparison zone of why others are happy with their lives even during this pandemic and why you are left out from the world. Also, social media shows many updates of the sufferings and tragedy stories of people who are suffering more than you, which can also lead to extreme thinking of you will also become a part of that tragedy soon, which is not reality.
Hence, just half-hour a day is good to spend on social media and check out the newsfeeds and updates of your network and even chat with your friends or known people. This will be a good way moving forward and you can find enough time to do other productive activities to improve your life.
