You will be amazed by your visit to Sri Aurobindo Ashram

Today we are going to talk about a spiritual place that has been formed 95 years ago. Located in Pondicherry (earlier known as Puducherry), the Sri Aurobindo Ashram is a highly known place for the kind of spiritual contentment it provides to its disciples. The Ashram, which is another word for spiritual community or group actually got formed in 1910 after the disciples of Sri Aurobindo came together. Sri Aurobindo who was known for his political work got focused on the spiritual work in November 1926. It was at this time, he gave over the work of the ashram and its sadhaks to the Mother, who was before called Mirra Alfassa.

Sri Aurobindo Ashram has grown rapidly since 1926 under the guidance of the Mother. It was earlier a group of few people who now have developed into a community of more than 1600 members. The Centre of Education has almost 400 students and several devotees who live around the area. The bigger ashram community has above 2000 people. People living in the ashram are called inmates who live and work there in many buildings that are spread all over the ashram area. The community life’s objective is the maintenance of the whole Ashram where Sri Aurobindo and the Mother stayed for the majority of their lives to practice meditation and explore spirituality.

Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education has been existing for many years to provide a new system of education that prepares future humanity to lead a divine life. The Ashram has more than 80 departments that look after the various units such as gardens, guesthouses, healthcare, farms, engineering, and others. The departments have been formed as per the need basis for a product or service that wasn’t available in earlier times but the sadhaks were motivated to pursue their capabilities of arts and inspiration.

Irrespective of your gender, race, religion, nationality, caste, or even age, you can become a member of the Ashram, which has now become a public charitable trust. Many people or devotees who live in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry visit this beautiful place on a daily basis and lend a supporting hand to the various activities in whichever way they can. People have even reportedly observed or followed the teaching of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother that has helped them in their lives to give their best and lead a peaceful life.

It is said that Sri Aurobindo gave 40 years of his life to explore the spiritual realization and practices that helped him understand that such practices can liberate man’s consciousness and even transform his nature. His renowned writing works also include The Life Divine, The Synthesis of Yoga, and Savitri.

The Ashram’s main building has a surrounding of a tree-shaded courtyard where also lies the flower-covered Samadhi at the central place. Sri Aurobindo and the Mother’s physical remains are set up at the white marble shrine in two distinct chambers. In the present day, if Pondicherry has become a spiritual haven, it is because of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram where thousands of people from all over the globe come to visit and experience inner peace and happiness. The visiting hours of the Ashram are 8am to 12pm and then again 2pm to 6pm.
