COVID pandemic has been an eye-opener for many things that were going on in the world but we couldn’t know or understand before. Some things serve as a learning lesson, one of them being to take care of our health more than anything in our life. As the pandemic started, the lockdown was announced in March 2020 in India as we weren’t knowing what is going to happen next.
The data that were presented to us about illness, deaths, and recovered patients made us feel anxious about our life and the lives of our relatives and friends. We would send a message or call all the people we know to understand how are they dealing with the process of life and accepting the new changes that have been introduced to them.
In the middle of everything, emerged a new concept that was actually in existence for many years, but it took everyone’s attention and that is nothing but teleconsultation between doctors and patients. Tele-consultation is nothing but a consultation that happens between a doctor and patient on phone or video call about the existing illness or discovery of a new illness and how to go about it. Earlier, usually, patients used to visit doctors in their clinics, dispensaries, and hospitals for medical check-ups and analysis of their health issues.
But as the lockdown took place and made it really difficult for people to step out of their homes, teleconsultation helped a patient and a doctor interact with each other in a friendlier manner, send photos of their problems (physical) if any, and get the medicines through courier or by visiting a medical store. It not only helped patients staying in remote areas reach out to doctors of good hospitals but also changed the way the visit to a clinic or doctors was perceived earlier.
