The Maha Shivaratri event at Sri Lokanath Temple in Puri is well-known and draws a large crowd. The lingam, which is kept immersed in a vat of water throughout the year, is the showpiece of this location. This lingam is only seen on Pankodhar Ekadasi, the day before Shivaratri, when the water in the vat is emptied. Many devotees regard this as a unique opportunity to have live darshan from the lingam.
