How to care for your children in the heatwave

Heatwave is everywhere. Call your friend who stays in Bengaluru in the mid-afternoon and ask him how is he doing and he would reply saying "Kitna garmi hai yaar!! Lagta hai dhoop kha jayega hum sabko." Call another friend who stays in Ahmedabad and she would say "I just got a new AC to be put in the living room as well, my kids are just unable to tolerate the heat. Feel like shifting to a natural environment where there would be lack of pollution and heat as well".
When you get such responses over a period of time from your friends, then you can accept the fact that it is just not you who is unable to bear the rising temperature but people all over the country who are suffering due to the heat wave badly. Due to the heatwave, there is a list of health issues such as dehydration and other heat-related illnesses that can impact the children quite negatively.
The current season is the vacation period from schools and colleges for the kids and you being quite strict with them to not allow them to play during the morning or afternoon time won't be appreciated by them either. So, you need to keep them engaged by giving some morning and afternoon rituals so that they are at home and do not step out of their homes during the daytime.
Also, you need to encourage your children to get up from their places and keep drinking boiled lukewarm water at least 8 to 10 glasses a day compulsorily. This can keep them away from dehydration issues. If they are not consuming sufficient water, then you can prepare some fruit juices that they can drink at regular intervals. Lemon juice, watermelon, orange juice, and coconut water are some of the alternate options you can ask them to take on a regular basis to stay away from heat-related illnesses. This will keep their gut happy and make them feel energetic throughout the day.
If your child is facing urine-related problems, it is better to consult a doctor at the earliest and get them the required medicines along with some home remedies that can make the curing process natural and faster. Do not scold your child if they ask you to take them to a nearby park in the daytime but instead tell them you would be comfortable walking outside during the evening time.
Your children's health lies in your hands. As much as you are concerned about their physical health, that much you need to work on their mind-related issues as well. If they throw tantrums or get upset that they are unable to play with their friends during the daytime outside, you can encourage your child to call his or her friends at your home and play indoor games. You can make use of technology to some extent so that they are really engrossed in doing something creative and also keep learning by doing some fun activities.
