A lot of news reports these days cover only elder or senior parents getting harassed by their young children. But what triggers the young children to behave oddly is not being paid attention to. If you have younger children who stay with you and the majority of the time, as parents you have loggerheads with them, then here are some ways you can fix your relationship with your children.

1) Allow them to express:

Your young or middle-aged child might be going through a lot in his office or marital life. He may have several duties towards society as well. He or she may not express the same as it is and may remove the irritation that he is experiencing in a different manner. Instead of asking them to shut up when they suggest some improvements in your life or home, have the patience to listen. Many times, fights occur because both the parents and children don't express their needs and wants as it is. They choose poor methods of communication to share what is bothering them. So, instead of shutting each other by resisting to communicate, tell what is going on in your mind and also allow your children to share.

2) Don't judge or compare them with others:

Many times parents think that comparing with other children will motivate them to work more. However, not all children can take the comparisons done by their own parents in a light manner. They may feel dejected by you and in fact revolt for more freedom to live because they are fed up with listening to the same criticisms and comparisons of their life with that of others. So, instead of judging them for their decisions or thoughts, you can instead have a sober approach of accepting their views and giving them a better perspective. Appreciating them for their small wins every now and then will also give your children a boost to perform better. You need not make any fake praises of things that they are not good at. You can simply give them recognition for whatever they are able to do with their available resources and thinking.

3) Inspire them to lead their life:

Children, be it of any age, always look up to their parents for the way they live. So, if you are someone who is not respecting your life partner or using addictive things in your routine, there are high chances that your child will too follow the suit. So, instead of setting a bad example, tell them you have taken charge of your life by doing well for your financial security, health, and social life. You can even share examples of how your friends are doing well in their careers despite having failed exams or in different areas of life. But make sure it shouldn't sound like a comparison.

If your relationship with your children has been a toxic one, then you have to make efforts to improve the same. Don't set unrealistic expectations on them and make their life a living hell. Try to understand what is going on in society and give them scope for helping you and themselves lead a better life.
