Dussehra celebrates the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana who ruled Lanka. It is believed that Lord Rama defeated Ravana on this day and saved his wife Sita from Ravana’s jail. The word Dussehra comes from two words, dasha which means 10 and hara means defeat. As Ravana had 10 heads, Lord Rama killed him and established the dharma and the concept of the victory of good over evil. Dussehra also signifies the victory of Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon, Mahishasura.
