World Suicide Prevention Day is marked on 10 September every year.
The day aims to create awareness among the common people about the topic of suicide and how it can be prevented.
International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) joined hands with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) to organize the first-every such day in 2003.
Since then, over 40 countries have decided to observe the day with the help of events and awareness campaigns to stop people from committing suicide.
As per the data by WHO, over 8 lakh people die every year due to suicide and there around 20 million suicide attempts.
Many known and unknown reasons lead to the act of committing suicide.
To put it aptly, we known the fact that ‘all fingers of the hands are not same’. Similarly, all people do not think same and the exact cause of someone getting triggered to commit suicide is different and best known to them.
So how can you stop people to take their lives? Well, just be compassionate with others. Don’t be harsh and judgemental always to everyone.
Not everyone can accept the realities of life as it is and hence, before speaking or taking an action, think twice and then do accordingly.
If you are going through suicidal thoughts, please seek help. Call your friend or relative or a mental healthcare professional.
Life is beautiful if you look at it that way.
