Benevolence is the new way of life

Benevolence, also known as Charity, Kindness, Helping others should be the new way of life during and after the coronavirus pandemic. Covid-19 is an unexpected disaster that has affected all corners of the world in unimaginable ways. It is not only the economy, resources, people, but also the hearts and minds of people that have seen such a once-in-a-lifetime crisis all of a sudden, and that too at the worst.

When the first wave of the pandemic subsided, the second wave negatively ruined people’s lives creating more shock waves in the minds of the people. Now although the cases of coronavirus disease have declined, we are just so uncertain about what the future has to show us in terms of the pandemic and crisis situations.

‘Since pandemic, climate-related disasters hit 139mn people globally’

I recollect a story that my grandpa told me one day that when your times are good, you work well but when your times are bad, that is when you get to not only work but also help people around you who are in need. Kindness or Benevolence has to be adopted more during these and after these testing times.

Right from a child losing his education, to a office-goer losing his job, to a senior citizen losing his relatives, everyone’s heart has been attacked by these crisis times. During such times, you should count on the blessings that you have and be willing to donate more to the people in need in terms of food, clothing, used things that you don’t need anymore.

When I got to know my maid’s son is in his class 12, I had kept books of bank exams and other English-learning books that I gave off to her because not only are they of no use for me now but also her son needs it the most. When I got to know the milkman’s mother was hospitalized, I gave him his salary beforehand so that he can pay his expenses. Little understanding towards people around us and doing whatever is possible for you as per your boundaries are some good acts of kindness that go a long way.
