Recently, renowned playback singer Alka Yagnik shared her diagnosis of sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) through her Instagram post. She also warned her fans of the harmful effects of long exposure to loud music and the use of headphones.
What is Sensorineural Hearing Loss?
Sensorineural hearing loss occurs when there is damage to the inner ear. It’s one of the most common types of hearing loss and a permanent condition.
Early Warning Signs Sensorineural Hearing Loss
1) You might see that sounds around you feel dull even though the volume is normal. This makes it hard to catch every word.
2) You might often ask people to repeat themselves, especially in noisy settings.
3) High-pitched sounds might become harder to hear.
4) A common symptom of SNHL is tinnitus, means you hear a ringing or whooshing sound in your ears, even though there is no external sound.
5) Sometimes, SNHL can give you a sensation that your ears are blocked.
6) SNHL might lead to feelings of dizziness or vertigo.
