International Desk – US President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that he was immediately ending all trade talks with Canada. The decision came after he accused the Canadian government of using a “fake” Ronald Reagan advertisement to criticize US tariffs.
“The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about tariffs,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “They only did this to interfere with the decision of the US Supreme Court… Based on their egregious behavior, all trade negotiations with Canada are hereby terminated.”
The controversial ad, released in Ontario, used excerpts from a 1987 radio address by former President Reagan. In it, Reagan warned about the dangers of high tariffs, saying they lead to retaliation, trade wars, and job losses.
