London: After defeating Rishi Sunak in a bitterly fought Conservative leadership contest Liz Truss will become Britain’s next Prime Minister. She won 81, 326 (57.4%) of tory members. Former chancellor Sunak got 60, 399 votes (42.6%). Liz will take over from Boris Johnson whose own MPs forced him to resign in July this year. Truss is facing economic challenges, as the cost-of -living problem has gripped the nation. Truss has said she will reveal plans to support households within a week after entering the office.

The fourth Tory Prime Minister in in six years said, “We will deliver, we will deliver and we will deliver.” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Truss for her election as British Prime Minister. In a tweet, Modi said, “Congratulations @trussliz for being chosen to be the next PM of the UK. Confident that under your leadership, the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will be further strengthened.” Truss is one of the British Conservative Party leaders who always advocated for bettering India-UK strategic and economic ties.
