Kabul: Another tremor hit Patika province of Afghanistan on Friday claiming five lives. This happened after a massive earthquake hit the area, killing nearly 1,500 lives, leaving a trail of destruction on Wednesday, sources said.
The 5.9-magnitude earthquake, deemed to be the deadliest in two decades, struck the districts of Gayan and Barmal. The quake also left more than 1,600 injured. The epicentre was 44 km from Khost city and tremors were felt as far away as Pakistan and India.
India sends relief
The government of India sent 27 tons of emergency relief assistance to quake-hit Afghanistan, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
“In the wake of the tragic earthquake that struck Afghanistan on June 22, 2022 causing massive destruction and loss of precious lives, the Government of India, as a true first responder, has dispatched 27 tons of emergency relief assistance in two flights for the people of Afghanistan,” an MEA statement said.

The relief assistance to Afghanistan includes essential items such as family ridge tents, sleeping bags, blankets, sleeping mats and other items. According to reports, the relief consignment will be handed over to the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) in Kabul. India has also deployed a technical team in the Embassy of India, Kabul. An Indian technical team reached Kabul on Thursday to help the local administration to deal with the loss.
