New Delhi: As Sri Lanka is reeling under a severe economic crisis, India has extended its friendly hand of assistance to SriLanka. After sending Rs. 1 billion dollars of monetary aid and 40 thousand tonnes of rice India has now sent 76 thousand tonnes of fuel to the fuel and food starved nation to provide some immediate relief.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 76 thousand tonnes of fuel were transported to Sri Lanka under economic crisis the total supply of fuel under Indian aid now stands at more than 2.7 lakh tonnes.
Sri Lanka has been plunged into political turmoil due to the economic mismanagement of incumbent President Gotabaya Rajapaksa against whom nationwide protest is going on. The island nation is facing food and fuel shortage due to the failed economic policies of the govt by taking huge loans from China. Chinese debt trap has already engulfed the nation into starvation after acquiring its Hambantota port for a mere one billion loan.
SriLanka, has a population of about 2.2 crores, and its economy relies on tourism and tea exports, is now facing acute shortages of food, fuel and other essentials commodities required for daily living. People are terming it as one of the worse economic situations since Independence from British in 1948.

Earlier Covid pandemic has pushed the tourist nation into a severe crisis. Since the country’s economy relies on tourism and remittances. After the pandemic Russia-Ukraine was has dealt a new blow to the already reeling tourism industry. Since both, the nation represented Sri Lanka’s first and third biggest sources of visitors last year.
