Chandigarh: In view of the rapid rise in corona virus cases in Punjab, on Wednesday, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh announced the extension of the night curfew across the state and ordered a ban on political events.
Amarinder Singh said that whoever violates the ban on political events, even if he is a leader, will be booked under the Disaster Management Act and Epidemic Diseases Act. The Chief Minister said that the nighttime curfew from 9 o’clock in the morning to five o’clock in the morning will now be applicable in all the 22 districts. Till now it was planted only in 12 districts.
Under the new restrictions, only 50 guests will be allowed in closed spaces for cremation or weddings, and in such occasions in open space, only 100 guests will be allowed. According to a government statement, it has been made mandatory for all personnel in the offices to wear masks. This statement details new restrictions that have been imposed in the wake of the increasing cases of Covid-19 in the state.
The new restrictions and old restrictions will remain in effect till 30 April. Schools and educational institutions were closed under the old restrictions. Under the new restrictions, some relief has been given to shopkeepers in the malls, as the Chief Minister has allowed entry of maximum 10 persons to one shop at a time, previously more than 100 persons were allowed to visit the entire mall at one time.
