Goa assembly elections: Two more PWD ministers quit BJP, will fight independently

Two additional BJP MLAs, Isidore Fernandes and Deepak Pauskar, resigned from the party due to discontent over seat allotment. Pauskar was the Minister for Public Works Department, Handicrafts, Textile and Coir, and Goa Gazetteer in the Pramod Sawant-led Ministry when Fernandes was the Deputy Speaker of the Goa Assembly.

According to sources, Fernandes and Pauskar are expected to run as Independent candidates in Canacona and Sanvordem, respectively, after the BJP fielded Ramesh Tawadkar and Ganesh Gaonkar.

Former Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was enraged by the BJP’s decision to offer Dayanand Sopte a ticket from Mandram and convened an emergency gathering of his supporters. Savitri Kavlekar, wife of Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar and Mahila Morcha Vice President, has resigned from the party and will run for the Sanguem seat as an Independent.

Apart from the aforementioned MLAs, Wilfred D’Sa, Michael Lobo, Pravin Zantye, Alina Saldanha, and Carlos Almeida have all left the BJP in the last few months.
