Utpal Parrikar resigned as a state executive member and a main member of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday after stating that he will run as an independent candidate in the forthcoming Goa Assembly election from the Panaji constituency (BJP).

“Please accept this letter as formal notice of my resignation as a state executive member and from my main membership of BJP, Goa Pradesh,” Parrikar wrote in his resignation letter to Sadanand Tanavde, the head of the Goa BJP.

Utpal Parrikar had already stated that he would run as an independent candidate in the next Goa Assembly election from the Panaji district.

He’d stated, “For whatever reason, I was unable to secure the Panjim nomination; instead, it was offered to someone who joined the party opportunistically in the last two years. Due to the circumstances, I now have no choice but to choose the ideals instilled in me by my father and proceed to decide my political fate. As a result, I’d like to declare that I’ll be running as an independent candidate in Panaji.”
