Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, a three-time MLA who resigned from the Congress last month to join the Trinamool Congress only to abandon the party 20 days later, will run as an independent candidate in the upcoming Goa assembly elections. In its fifth list, released on Wednesday, the Congress declared an election candidate for Curtorim, a seat Lourenco has won three times on the party’s ticket.

The Congress’s Central Election Committee announced Moreno Rebello as its contender from Curtorim in South Goa in its fifth list of election candidates for the upcoming assembly election on February 14.
In the first list of candidates released by the Congress in December, Lourenco was named as the candidate from Curtorim in South Goa. He did, however, leave the Congress four days later to join the TMC.
Lourenco claimed on Monday that he regretted joining the TMC since he had received “unbelievable” opposition in his constituency and that his constituents had requested him to return to the Congress. A prominent Congress leader stated on Wednesday that the party will not accept Lourenco’s return.

“I quit from TMC and waited for them. I provided them with a choice. “However, I’d like to put an end to everything and begin a new chapter,” Lourenco said on Wednesday. “I’m going to be self-sufficient. Every election is a test… My Curtorim people and God are behind me, and I am confident that I will defeat the other contenders.” he declared.
