Melbourne: Australia defeated India by 85 runs in the ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2020 to clinch a record fifth T20 title. Batting first after winning the toss in the title match, Australia scored 184 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the prescribed 20 overs. Chasing the target, India were reduced to 99 runs in just 19.1 overs.
This is Australia’s 5th title in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The Women’s T20 World Cup began in 2009, where England defeated New Zealand to win the first edition. After this, in 2010, 2012 and 2014, Australia scored a hat-trick of title wins.
In 2016, the West Indies upset Australia in Kolkata and won the first T20 World Cup. After this, in the year 2018, Australia again established its kingship.
In the Women’s T20 World Cup, England, Australia and West Indies have won the title so far. Now ahead of this, South Africa is going to host the tournament in 2022, where the rest of the teams will also go down with the intention of creating history.
