In the 2008 Malegaon bombing case, a fresh twist has emerged. A witness became combative during the case’s hearing in court on Tuesday. This is the 15th witness to become hostile thus far. In the Malegaon bomb bombing case, 220 persons have testified thus far. Six persons were murdered on September 29, 2008, when an explosive attached to a motorcycle exploded near a mosque in Malegaon, Maharashtra, roughly 200 kilometres north of Mumbai. Aside from that, more than 100 persons were hurt as a result of the incident. Pragya Singh Thakur, a BJP MP from Bhopal, is one of the other defendants in the case.

The witness stated that he was ‘tortured by ATS, the case’s then-investigative agency,’ and that the ATS pushed him to falsely name Yogi Adityanath and four other RSS members. During this time, this witness informed a special NIA court in Mumbai that he had been tortured by the case’s then-investigating agency, the ATS. He informed the court that he was held at the ATS headquarters for seven days following the bomb, and that the ATS threatened to torture him and his family members.

The witness further said that the ATS pushed him to name five RSS leaders, including Yogi Adityanath, Indresh Kumar, Deodhar, and Kakaji. The witness who made a testimony against Lt Col Purohit had become hostile earlier in August. After that, he was labelled a traitor by a special NIA court. Pragya Singh Thakur, a BJP Lok Sabha MP from Bhopal, Major (Retd) Ramesh Upadhyay, Ajay Rahirkar, Sudhakar Dwivedi, Sudhakar Chaturvedi, and Sameer Kulkarni are among the other defendants in the case. They are all free on bail and will face charges under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
