What is the BJP connection of Deep Sidhu who hoisted the religious flag on Red Fort?

New Delhi: During the tractor rally held on Republic Day in Delhi, some fierce farmers created a lot of uproar and even hoisted a religious flag on the ramparts of the Red Fort. In all this events, the name of a celebrity named Deep Sidhu is coming up who hoisted the flag. A large section of farmers is opposing these violent incidents. Farmer leaders have accused Deep Sidhu of inciting farmers and spreading violence. Although Deep Sidhu has come on Facebook and said, ‘We hoisted the flag of Nishan Sahib at the Red Fort under our democratic right to protest, but the Indian flag was not removed.’

Many such pictures of Deep Sidhu have appeared on social media in which apart from Prime Minister Modi, along with Dharmendra, Hema Malini and Sunny Deol are seen, this entire incident has been seen through political glasses. The Sanyukta Kisan Morcha is describing yesterday’s incident as a conspiracy, while the farmers involved in the parade have called it a move of the Delhi Police at the behest of the Central Government.

Actor Deep Sidhu, who was among those present during the incident amid widespread outrage over the protesters hoisting a religious flag at the Red Fort during the Farmers ‘Tractor Parade on Republic Day, on Tuesday defended the protesters’ act by saying that those did not remove the national flag. Sidhu said in a video posted on Facebook that he should not be given any communal color as is being done by fundamentalists.

Sidhu said, “to symbolically register our protest against the new agricultural laws, we put up ‘Nishan Sahib’ and Kisan flag and also raised the slogan of Kisan Mazdoor Ekta.” He pointed to ‘Nishan Sahib’ pointing out that the flag represents “unity in diversity” of the country. ‘Nishan Sahib’ is a symbol of Sikhism which is seen on all gurdwara premises. He said that the national flag was not removed from the flag-pillar on Red Fort and no one questioned the unity and integrity of the country. Sidhu said that in such a mass movement “anger erupts when people’s real rights are ignored”. He said, “In today’s situation, that anger flares up.” Yogendra Yadav, leader of the Swaraj Abhiyan, one of the leaders leading the movement against it, said that he had sidelined Sidhu from his movement right from the beginning.

Significantly, in the year 2019, when actor Sunny Deol contested the Lok Sabha elections from Gurdaspur, Deep Sidhu was also included in his election campaign team. However, after the violent incident at the Red Fort, Sunny Deol said in a tweet that ‘I or my family has no connection with Deep Sidhu’.
