Westminster Court orders Nirav Modi to be extradited to India

New Delhi: The British Government has approved the extradition of fugitive diamond trader Nirav Modi to India. Earlier, the Westminster Court of Britain had accepted the extradition petition and sent the matter to the Home Minister for approval. Apart from Nirav Modi, the Indian government has been trying to bring Mehul Choksi and Vijay Mallya, who are living in the UK, to India.

However, Nirav Modi will still have the last option to legally challenge the order to extradite India. Nirav Modi has been accused of fraud of thousands of crores of rupees through LoUs to other banks including Punjab National Bank. British Government Home Minister Preeti Patel has signed the order to extradite Nirav Modi to India. Earlier, the Westminster Court of Britain had accepted the extradition petition and sent the matter to the Home Minister for approval.

He had misused Punjab National Bank alone for about 14 thousand crore rupees by misusing the bank guarantee. He was absconding since the revelation of the case. The Westminster Court dismissed a petition challenging Nirav Modi’s extradition in February 2021. During the Corona epidemic, the British court rejected the pleas of his mental condition and the condition of the jails in India and rejected his extradition to India.
