‘Voluntary ban on new privacy policy’, WhatsApp told Delhi High Court

New Delhi: WhatsApp told the Delhi High Court on Friday that it has put the new privacy policy on voluntary hold for the time being. The company said that until the data protection bill is implemented, it will not limit its capacity. This means that the facilities that the users are taking advantage of will continue to run.

In the High Court, WhatsApp said that we have voluntarily stopped the update till then. WhatsApp said that there is no regulatory body in our case, so the government will decide. The company said that we have decided that we will not implement it for some time.

The High Court asked WhatsApp that it has been alleged that you want to collect data and give it to others. Which you cannot do without the consent of the other party. The court said that the allegation is also that you have a different scale for India. Do you have different policy for India and Europe?

On this, WhatsApp said that we have made a commitment that we will not do anything till the law comes from Parliament. If Parliament allows us to make a separate policy for India, we will make that one too. If it doesn’t, then we will consider it too. The company said that if Parliament allows me to share the data, then the CCI cannot say anything.

The court was hearing a petition by the instant messaging platform and its owners, Facebook, challenging the Competition Commission of India’s (CCI) inquiry into the policy. The next hearing of the case will be on July 30.
