US forces leave Afghanistan’s Bagram airbase after 20 years

Kabul: American forces left the Bagram airbase, which was the center of the army in the Afghanistan war, after nearly 20 years. A US defense official told AFP on Friday that all American and NATO troops had left the Bagram airbase and indicated that the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Afghanistan is near.

The airbase had been a military center for the war to overthrow the Taliban and the capture of al-Qaeda conspirators responsible for the 9/11 terrorist attack on the United States. Officials said the airfield was “for Afghan national security and security.” The Defense Force’ has been completely handed over.

Without giving further details on when US and NATO troops left Bagram airbase, located 50 km from Kabul, this official said on condition of anonymity, “All coalition forces are out of Bagram.”

The official did not specify when the airbase would be officially handed over to the Afghan army. Significantly, after becoming the President of America, Joe Biden had announced that after nearly two decades, America will withdraw all its troops from Afghanistan by September 11 this year.
