US expresses concern about violence and discrimination against religious minorities in India

Washington: On Wednesday, a US report alleging attacks and discrimination against religious and ethnic minorities in India said that US authorities have emphasized the need to provide full protection to minorities in the country under the Constitution. The 2019 International Religious Freedom Report, recognized by the US Congress, was released by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in the State Department on Wednesday, citing incidents of religious freedom violations worldwide.

India had already rejected a report on America’s religious freedom, stating that it does not assume any foreign government’s jurisdiction over the constitutionally protected rights of its citizens. The India section of the report states that US officials, along with the ruling and opposition parties, civil organizations and religious freedom activists and religious leaders of various communities, throughout the year on the importance of honoring religious freedom and promoting tolerance and mutual respect Is stressed.

It added that US officials, in talks with government officials, the media, inter-community harmony organizations and NGOs, have emphasized the need to address the legitimate concerns of the country’s religious minorities, condemned communal rhetoric and the Constitution’s The emphasis is on ensuring full protection to minorities.
