Iron rod inserted into private parts

Badaun: In yet another horrific incident reviving memories of 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape and murder, a 50-year-old woman was gang-raped and then murdered in the Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh.

The brutal incident took place when 50-year-old victim, who worked as an Anganwadi worker, went to perform pooja in a temple on Sunday evening. The incident has been reported from a village under Ughaiti police station area of Badaun district.

The post-mortem report confirms that an iron rod was inserted into her private parts.

According to the autopsy, the woman’s ribs were also broken and her left lung also suffered damage during the attack. The report attributed the woman’s death to excessive bleeding and shock.

On a complaint from the woman’s family, the police have booked three persons including a priest.

Talking to media, the victim’s son said his mother’s body was dumped at their house in the night by three men including a priest, a driver.

All three accused are still absconding. A senior police official of the district said they have formed four teams to nab the accused.

Police have filed a case under relevant sections including 376 (rape) of Indian Penal Code.

Some other reports suggest that the police did not reach the spot even after they were informed of the incident. The body was sent for post-mortem only on Monday, a good 18 hours after the horrific incident.
