Washington: Donald Trump has admitted for the first time that Joe Biden won the US presidential election but then said the whole thing had been ‘rigged’.
After his tweet earlier was widely reported as being ‘as close to a concession’ as Mr Trump is likely to come, he later clarified that he ‘concedes nothing.’
The outgoing US President said vote watchers and observers had not been allowed into counts, without providing any evidence this was the case.
He also asserted that the vote has been counted by a ‘radical left privately owned company’ using ‘bum equipment’, again without giving any more details.
He then tweeted: ‘He (Biden) only won in the eyes of the FAKE NEWS MEDIA. I concede NOTHING! We have a long way to go. This was a RIGGED ELECTION!’
Results in all states have now been declared, ten days after the nationwide poll. Mr Biden has been projected to win 306 electoral college votes – the same number Mr Trump won in 2016 which at the time he described as a ‘landslide.’
TV networks called the election for Mr Biden more than a week ago but Mr Trump has continued to cling on to the hope that he can prove there was ‘widespread fraud’ and swing things back in his favour.
