Srinagar: Security forces on Wednesday killed three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, including a Pakistani commander, in an encounter in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
A police spokesman said here today that on intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists, Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a raid in the main colony of Pulwama city late on Tuesday night. Joint cordon and search operation (CASO) was launched.
He said as the security forces were moving towards the designated area, the hiding terrorists opened fire on them. The encounter started after the security forces retaliated.
He said people living in the immediate vicinity were shifted to safer places and the terrorists were asked to surrender.
Later, additional security forces were deployed in the area to thwart any escape attempt by the terrorists, he said. He said that when the security forces again tried to move towards the area this morning, the terrorists again opened fire on them. In retaliation by the security forces, three terrorists including the Pakistani commander have been killed. All terrorists are said to be of Lashkar-e-Taiba.
