New Delhi: Former Indian cricket team opener master blaster Sachin Tendulkar has held another record even after retiring. Sachin Tendulkar has won the Lareys 20 Sporting Moment 2000-2020 award.
Sachin Tendulkar’s name was announced at the Laureus World Sports Awards event held in Berlin, the capital of Germany. Sachin Tendulkar was named in the Best Sporting Moment category for the event.
20 awardees from across the world, including Sachin Tendulkar, were nominated for the award. After beating them all, Tendulkar took this award in his name.
The moment associated with Tendulkar has been titled ‘Carried on the Shoulders of a Nation’ in view of India’s 2011 World Cup victory. Nearly nine years ago, Tendulkar became a member of the team that won the final match while playing in their sixth World Cup. After winning the World Cup, he was made to travel around the stadium by fellow players. During this time, he was not tired of greeting his fans.
The match was tied after voting between six-time Formula One World Champion Hamilton and 6-time FIFA World Player of the Year Messi. It was the first time in the 20-year history of the Laureus Award. The sporting jury then jointly selected the two for the award. Messi is the first footballer to receive this award.
The Laureus Award is one of the world’s most prestigious awards. It was started in 1999 by Daimler and Richmont of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The first awards were given on 25 May 2000. In this, awards are given in 13 different categories. The major categories in the award are Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year, Laureus World Team of the Year, Laureus World Comeback of the Year and Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year.
