Supreme Court rejects Nirbhaya gangrape convict’s juvenile claim

Date:

In a new turn to the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case, the lawyer of Pawan Gupta, one of the four convicts of the case, has made a new claim. Pawan Gupta’s lawyer A.P. Singh has stated that the Delhi police had hidden his client’s document who will be hanged along with the other three convicts on 1 February 2020.

Singh has claimed that his client was reportedly a minor at the time of the offence i.e. December 2012 and his client’s documents like school certificate that revealed his date of birth were purposefully hidden by the top police officials.

However, the Supreme Court clarified saying that it will not entertain any petition that has already been examined and rejected.
Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi criticized the rapists for wasting the apex court’s time in delaying the execution process and said they must be hanged one by one.

23-year-old paramedical student Nirbhaya was gangraped and brutally injured by six persons in Delhi in 2012. Ram Singh, the main accused killed himself by hanging inside Tihar jail while one served his time at a juvenile correction centre and was let off without being punished.
