Stopping export of vaccine by India increases the risk of new strain of virus on 91 countries: WHO

New Delhi: With the ban on exporting Indian vaccines to other countries, the threat of a new strain of corona virus has increased in 91 countries of the world. Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Chief Scientist of the World Health Organization has expressed this estimate. This poor countries was largely dependent on AstraZeneca’s vaccine Covishield which is being made in the Serum Institute of India. He was also eagerly awaiting the shipment of Corona’s upcoming vaccine Novavax.

Soumyanathan said, due to non-receipt of consignment of Covid vaccine from India, these African countries are at increased risk of outbreak of Corona variant B.1.617.2, which was first detected in India. The possibility of supply to poor countries from other countries is negligible. In these countries, the B.1.617.2 variant can spread extremely fast. He said, not only the B.1.617.2 variant but also other variants can spread rapidly in the world. These are highly contagious forms of the virus. Even before they are identified, they spread very fast in the world. The same has been seen in 117 variants of the virus.
