Sidhu to take charge of Punjab Congress Chief on July 23; shows strength with 62 MLA’s

Newly appointed Punjab’s Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu to take charge on July 23. In an apparent show of strength Sidhu hosted lunch party to 62 MLA at his Amritsar residence, sending a strong signal not only to Congress high command in Delhi but to the incumbent CM Capt. Amrinder Singh too.

Power Prayer for Punjab power

After the power show of MLA’s and number game, Sidhu along with all the MLA boarded a luxury bus to seek blessings and pay obeisance at Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar. Sidhu body language shows that he has got the numbers after a long power tussle between him and Punjab CM.

Accompanying 62 MLAs, Sidhu pays obeisance at Golden Temple

Since, it was Amrinder Singh, who has objected Sidhu’s elevation as Punjab’s party head post by writing to Sonia Gandhi. But now it seems that Sidhu had the last laugh in the power tussle of Punjab.

According to the sources Sidhu has sent an invitation signed by about 65 Congress MLA to Harish Rawat and Amrinder Singh as well for July 23 function.

With the number game on, it was the opposition BJP which seemed to be enjoying the power tussle within the Congress. “Game on. Sidhu 62, Capt 15,’’ tweeted BJP’s national spokesman RP Singh.

As per the state senior political analyst, it is believed that out of the 62 MLAs who have appeared with Sidhu, most are from Majha area of Punjab. Some MLA belong to Malwa also. Since Congress is currently holding 22 out of 25 seats in Majha while 40 out of 69 MLA are elected from Malwa region. Till now, CM Captain Amarinder Singh is running absolute majority govt with a total of 77 Congress MLAs. If the present 62 MLAs are counted along with Sidhu, then the position of Captain looks a little weak in Punjab assembly.

Meanwhile after the meeting cum power-show in Amritsar; Sidhu did not speak anything to media but Punjab Jail Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa clearly told that ‘any leader or minister and MLA who does not obey the order of the party high command, will be considered as undisciplined’.

Earlier, after announcement as state head, Sidhu was seen engaging with senior leaders of the state, Congress ministers and MLAs. Perhaps for this reason, MLA Rajkumar Verka, who came to support him at Captain’s residence on Monday, was seen standing and supporting Sidhu on Tuesday. Only time will tell who is with whom in Punjab. Is Amrinder Singh still the captain in Punjab or Sidhu has hit his strategies out of the park for maximum?

Won’t meet Sidhu until he apologises for ‘derogatory’ tweets: Amarinder (Ld)
