Mumbai: Section 144 has been imposed in Mumbai in view of cyclonic storms, which will prohibit the presence or movement of any person in public places. This order will be in force from midnight today till 12 noon tomorrow.
The Greater Mumbai Police Commissioner has issued an order announcing the imposition of Section 144 of CrPC. Under this, no person’s presence or movement will be allowed on public places such as sea beaches, resorts, parks.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that Cyclone Nisarga is moving towards the coast of Maharashtra. The storm is likely to reach Mumbai on Wednesday i.e. June 3. NDRF teams have been deployed to deal with the possible devastation from the storm.
According to the IMD, a pressure zone is forming in the east-central Arabian Sea, 300 km west of Panaji, south-southwest and 550 km from Mumbai, and south-southwest 770 km from Surat. The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next 48 hours in the Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep region and coastal areas of Kerala. It is advised not to venture into the Karnataka-Goa coastal region along the East-Central Arabian Sea by June 3, the East-Central Arabian Sea adjoining Maharashtra and the North-East Arabian Sea adjoining Gujarat by June 3-4.
Considering the possibility of a cyclonic storm, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 9 teams in Maharashtra. Of these, three teams have been deployed in Mumbai, two in Palghar, one each in Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has held a review meeting with officials of the National Disaster Management Authority on preparations to deal with Nisarga. The cyclone is expected to hit parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat on June 3.
