New Delhi: The third Test match between India and England will be played from February 24 at Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. After the four-match Test series, a series of five T20 matches and a series of three ODIs will be played. Earlier, England had announced a 16-man squad for the T20 series against India. It did not include the name of captain Joe Root who scored a double century in the first Test for England. According to reports, along with Route T20, they can also be out of the ODI series.
According to reports, Joe Root may be rested for the ODI series against the Indian team. The rotation policy could force Root to stay out of the team due to Chris Woakes. England is using a rotation policy to give players a break from the upcoming T20 World Cup and Ashes series.
Although Root is the captain of the England Test team, he does not get enough opportunities in limited overs cricket. His last T20 match was against Pakistan in May 2019. His last ODI was against Australia in September 2020. Meanwhile, he has scored 5962 runs in 148 ODIs. In T20 cricket, he scored 893 runs in just 32 matches.
